Are home updates or renovations on your to-do list for 2021? Maybe it’s time to paint!
One of the easiest (and most cost effective) ways to make a big impact is through color. So why not start the year out with a new tone or hue for your home? We’ve gathered the top color choices for the year from major paint companies. Read on to get inspired!
Sherwin Williams
Want to start the year off boldly? Sherwin Williams’ 2021 paint color of the year is Urbane Bronze. The rich gray-brown neutral gives any room a grounded, down-to-earth feel. The color is meant to help you feel like you are one with nature, and can create a cozy atmosphere whether used on all four walls of a room or as an accent.
Pair it with: Complementary neutrals (as seen above), or subtle pops of color through drapery, artwork or an area rug.
Pantone
For 2021, Pantone thought outside the box, choosing two contrasting colors: Ultimate Gray and Illuminating Yellow. This neutral gray pairs perfectly with the bright and sunny yellow, creating an uplifting pop of color. Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute, said, “The union of an enduring Ultimate Gray with the vibrant yellow Illuminating expresses a message of positivity supported by fortitude.”
Pair it with: Each other!
Benjamin Moore
Benjamin More selected this soothing Aegean Teal for its 2021 color of the year. The calming blend of blue-green and gray adds color to the home while remaining modern. Hannah Yeo, color marketing and development manager at Benjamin Moore, calls it “an intriguing blue-green that creates natural harmony and invites us to take a moment to reflect and reset.”
Pair it with: Cool blue tones (here’s looking at you, navy!) or other pops of color (like Pantone’s Illuminating Yellow).
Farrow & Ball
Farrow & Ball has a different take from the others. Their 2021 colors of the year include Deep Reddish Brown, Tanner’s Brown, and Preference Red. For those of you who love warmer tones, these rich colors will help create cozy sanctuaries in any area of your home.
Pair it with: Light, warm neutrals.
Glidden
For 2021, Glidden chose their first Accent Color of the Year: Aqua Fiesta. This cheerful aquamarine pairs well with Glidden’s 2020 color of the year, Whirlwind, while adding a pop of color. This fun color is sure to brighten any room!
Pair it with: Light grays and white as seen above.
Rust-Oleum
Rust-Oleum is spicing things up with their color of the year, Satin Paprika. This warm, earthy color (available in spray paint) can be used to add a pop of color to indoor or outdoor furniture and decor, making a great weekend project for DIYers.
Pair it with: Dark neutrals or other primary colors.
Happy painting!
